165 Slicks - One for the Ozzies
I know our antipidean brothers use slick tyres in their 400 race series down under, so they'd be the right men to answer this.
I've been given a set of slicks and the rear is a 165. Any issues regarding chain clearance when running it on an NC29?? Currently have a 160 treaded on there and there isnt a whole load of room.
Also are there any issues with squeezing it onto a rim which was designed with a 150 in mind, thinking about the profile??
Cheers in advance,
Martyn

There won't be any issues with chain clearance. The bridgestone and dunlop 165 slicks aren't designed for use on 4.5" rims, it distorts the profile somewhat but nearly all Aussie racers use them (not allowed aftermarket wheels) and the close racing and fast times speak for themselves. Other sized rear slicks aren't available here.
I've used them on several occasions and was very impressed with the outright grip over any other tyre available.
Give them a go, they let you push a lot harder and give heaps of confidence!

Yeah no worries, was considering throwing them on the bike when I head back out to Spain, my second concern was keeping heat in them, but that shouldnt be as much of an issue out there with track temperatures being a fair bit hotter than the UK, certainly hotter than Northern Ireland.
Cheers for the info.

Thanks guys, think I'll definately give them a go, was kicking myself for not trying them last time out, but the guy at trackside was charging a clean fortune for swapping tyres over, for me to risk them fouling the chain or being distorted. For the record they're a pair of Dunlops, and I'll let you know any effect they have on lap times, will be curious myself to see the difference.

Hey Rhory, happy new year old son, meant to reply to your mail but clean forgot! I'm hoping to get home before the bikes have to leave for Spain, but if last time was anything to go by I'll be cutting it fine. Here's hoping anyhow. Jason will be riding the 400 for the most part and I'll be getting used to the 600, but if we put the slicks on it he'll be prising me off the wee one with a stick!
You can pop down anytime you like and have a butchers if I'm not home in time, Jason has a bit of work to do to both of them!!
