Need some help from abroad. NC29 tranny part

Post by cajun »

Hey guys I'm in the US and got my hands on a NC29. Problem is the guy who I got it from dogged the out of it and I am rebuilding the entire engine. Well I have ran into a snag. It seems that the 3rd and 4th gear is worn the hell out. Buuuuutttt........ They do not make the part anymore. So my question is, Does anyone have a old transmission laying around with a 3/4th gear with a 16/22 gear combo that they would be willing to part with?

Oh and thanks for the site it is a wealth of knowledge. If I tell someone what this bike is over here, even at the dealership, they look at me like I'm retarded.

G'day mate, can't help with a part sorry, but I'm pretty sure the rvf400 also uses the same internal gears as the nc29. You should be able to find one pretty easily by posting a wanted ad in the classified section.

Hmmmmm...... But what I found out is that for some reason the first two years of the NC29 are different than the last one. Which means that it will prolly be specfic for the RVF400 too. But I see what you mean about a used one. At this point I'll take what I can get.

Have you tried CMSNL.com? They appear to have all the transmission parts for the later R model. Im only on my phone so only have limited browsing but if you get the part number also try David Silver in the uk.

From following greggo's rebuild, I think that the 4th gear is same ratio, but 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are different. The RVF is close ratio with a taller 1st. It's a bit of a job to get an RVF box into an NC29, as Greg has has documented.

I just need the 3rd and 4th not the rest, the part numbers for a 400RR-L are the same I believe.

Not sure what you mean. I'm guessing you mean re-cut them to fit agian? Not sure. Roy is helping me as he stated he thinks he has the part. I was hoping I had a 400RR-R and that's the gear I got sent when trying to order but it's actually a RR-L which isn't available anymore.

PM me your mail addres dude..I'll mail you the pdf..

You want part 23451-KY2-000 which is the 16/22 cluster for a CBR400RR-L and N model

The RVF part ref is 23451-KY2-751 for the same cluster

If my memory serves then I recall that the last three digits in a Honda ref is a revision and is compatible with prev revisions as it supersedes them.

All the Microfiches that I look at are saying it is 23451-KAF-900 or 23451-KY2-711. It's number 8 in all of them.
