Do you wear knee pads? What kind?

Post by Lope »

I wear a pair of black Razer pants with the kevlar knee and ass panels.
I've never really worn knee pads for comfort reasons, but I've always felt a bit naked in the knee area.

I've got a pair of knee pads from my rollerblading days. They seem pretty good, problem is they're really uncomfortable. They've got 2 stretching velcro straps that go around your quad and calf (one above and one below knee). When you walk its really annoying.

As a little experiment I tried holding them infront of my knees (on the outside of the pants), they're pretty inconspicuous (relative to the big boots, jacket, gloves and helmet :)) and ofcourse you can't even feel they are there, unless you drop to the floor on your knees, then you're glad :)

So I'm thinking of sewing some velcro to the knees of my pants and to the back of these knee pads. So I can just slap the pads on and they will be comfortable, then I can just pull them off when I want to wash the pants or when I'm packing the stuff in a backpack.

Motrax make a self-adhesive pad for jeans etc that allows you to use normal motorbike knee sliders with them.

I have a pair of Motrax sparklies as I like to show off in the dark :P

Damn good idea, might get a set for my winter textiles and stop riding like a granny when it's cold :)

Sliders come with velcro backing, so as long as you have velcro on your pants you're good to go.

I use leather sliders personally (not very well!).

Lope, are you saying you wear trousers that don't already have knee protection?

My trousers just have kevlar panels on the knees and ass. No padding or sliders. I ride on the road only though.

so no armour in the knee? id get some fitted or get some trousers that do have them if you come off you'll do some big damage to your knee

sliders wont protect your knee

Yeah definitely worth upgrading your trousers. If you're on a budget you can still get a pair of half decent leather trousers for around £80 or maybe less.
