Skidmarx fairings - full "Fibre Glass" set - any good?
Hiya All,
I saw Skidmarx do a full set for £340... plain though - needs paintjob on top.
2 new questions:
Q1) Whats the pros and cons for Fibre Galss Vs ABS?
Q2) Is it material for a road rider?
Std Questions RE:Fitment:
Has anyone out there had experience of these types of after market fairings? Or know people who has?
Quality of the actual fairings pieces? Uniform thickness and apperance? Strength and quality of Lugs?
Quality of the fit overall - everything lines up ok?
Quality of the fit to inner fixtures?
Quality of the pre drilled holes etc?
Hope you can advise.
Cheers
Martin

personally id buy 2nd hand panels and get then painted. i did my bike for the same cost as FBGlass in 2006! at least you know they will fit together with no problems
Pros:
you get panels for your bike
maybes:
cheap?
cons:
you have to spend quite a bit of time to make them fit together nicely, if your not a patient person i'd let a bike body shop to do the job.
holes generally don't line up.. hence the time spent "fitting"
measure twice, drill once.
5 odd years ago paint jobs didnt last long on FBglass, i dont know about modern paint???

Hiya Leopard! 8)
I was looking at the CBR400 CD last night, I got from you 2 years ago! 8)
Thanks for the advise. I'll bear that in mind.
I think its worth asking now though, to see if processes/Products have improved in 5 years etc.
Cheers

Fibreglass flexes more than ordinary panels so you get starring. I'd buy 2nd hand or repspray.
FG is fine for track bikes

it crazes in a star kind of formation. Doesnt need vibration to do it. Just look at any FG panels that are a few months old. They all do it unless it is a REALLY good sprayer.

cool :0)
i will be rummaging in to my files when i start stripping my NC29 after xmas.
back on topic....
over the next few weeks, eye up panels on flea bay, see how much they are going for. make sure they are plastics.
or.. phone GF and ask him how much for mis matched paint job panels he wants rid off...

I almost bought a set, apparently the finish on the panels is fairly good so they don't necessary need painting. If I was still going down that route I'd get the panels in one or two different colours and stick decals on.

Fibreglass is lighter than plastic and much easier to work with when repairing or modifying.
I like using fibreglass on roadbikes, it's easier to take on and off and mine are always ratbikes anyway when it comes to paintjobs so paint quality doesn't apply here!
