electrical issue...

Post by luckyrob »

Went out on my NC35 last night and the full beam has got stuck on  Thing is I can't remember whether or not the button for it pushs in and stays in for full beam and pops back out for dipped or not, like the picture on the switch suggests. If that is the case then the button is faulty, if not does anyone have any ideas before I go trying to find out what it is.....?

Cannot remember which way round the switch works without looking,
Could it be that the relay that brings on high beam has welded itself closed, which would make your hi/lo switch on the handlebar do nothing. :?:

Yes it does.

Common failing if you are running 55/60w bulbs instead of the original 35/60w, the switch melts due to the extra current.
All NC30's and NC35's have a relay for high beam, UK NC30's had an extra relay for low beam as it was fitted with 55/60w bulbs

You can modify the NC30 and NC35 imports to have a low beam relay like the UK version, this site tells you how.
http://www.vsource.org/VFR-RVF_files/NC ... mRelay.htm

With the switch you can dismantle it, scrape the melted bits off the switch and get it to work again, PITA to do it and chances are you will need to repeat the same again sometime if you don't add a relay.

Just investigated the above problem.... Turns out I have the OEM lightbulbs (35/60w) and I then took the switch apart and could find nothing wrong with it other than the spring jumped out across my garage whilst dismantling it! I thought it was lost for sure but managed to find it on top of the garage door.Phew!
Anyway, so I put it all back together and it works fine again.
Thanks for the input on the possible causes though guys. Cheers

Or it could just have been a bit dirty. :D

Just the topic I've waiting for :) Does anyone have details of the relay mod for the RVF?
Thanks.

I'm not going to post the link twice but although it's for the NC30 it's 99% the same as for the NC35.
