Bike wont start.. SORTED but throttle cable problem......

Post by Snap »

Ive been trying in vain to start the bike but its not having any of it. :x

Its got enough fuel, cleaned the spark plugs, the battery is charged (also tried jumping it off my other bike) and all it does when trying to start it is popping from the exhaust with small flames as well.

What could it be thats not allowing the bike to start?

Thanks.

plugs usually...they get killed by ham fisted efforts at starting :o

try no throttle, full choke and in 10 sec bursts. When did it last start? if it has been sat a while then you may need to refresh the fuel and also use some more patience..it will come!

Mine does not like the cold I can tell you!

It has been sat for a while (cleaned the carbs etc...) but it did start last week, not easily though. Oh, it also got new fuel last week too

Anyone know if halfrauds do the spark plugs needed? I only need 1 since i already have 3 new ones that i'll fit later.

Probably best to order from ebay or wemoto..

Would recommend wemoto they are based in brighton and can deliver.. I think the iridium ones last a bit longer.

Are the plugs wet when you pull them after an attempted start?

If not it may be a carb issue.. Double check the carbs are seated ok, that all the slides move freely and are not stuck..

Just a few ideas..

Its all about elimination!

Good luck!

My Rvf has just done the same, been stood only for a couple of weeks, started it yesterday and was misfiring badly, pushed it in the shed went to it today and wont start, banging out of exhaust.

New plugs / fuel, fully charged battery good spark on all 4 crank it and take plugs out they are reasonably wet but bloody thing wont go. Baffled

Sounds like the plugs. Same thing happened to me the other week. Engine would turn over but wouldn't fire and every now and then there'd be a LOUD backfire and flames would shoot out the can. The backfiring/flames out the can tend to suggest the fuelling is ok (I checked my carbs anyways, but they were dandy) in that it's getting fuel but that the mix isn't being ignited properly (poor, weak or inconsistent spark) and is left to accumulate before finally being ignited resulting in backfiring. When I checked the plugs they didn't look great plus the sparks were intermittent and not v healthy. Swapped the plugs and she was grand. Fired up first time, on the button and then ran happily there after.

Wet usually means fouled!

You can sometimes dry them and bring them back to life by holding them over a gas flame.

Yarr, if it's a wet carbony fuely mix it's fouled. Mine were fouled and it'd start momentarily after I'd cleaned and dried the plugs (was the first method I tried as it don't cost nowt) but ran rough and then next time I'd go to start her she'd wouldn't start and we'd have the same problem again. Try cleaning the plugs by all means but to me sounds like they're probably passed their best.
