Just a quick question guys,
If the regulator/rectifier was stuffed, like i believe mine is, would this cause the bike not to start even with a new battery?
Dead Rectifier/regulator = no start?

Any further developments? Bike cranks ok but will not fire or bike fails to crank?

Bike cranks, decent spark, carbies fully serviced and sweet...
even pulling the plugs out and a little spray of airostart onto the piston, then plugs back in and still nothing...
so, got spark, compression, fuel/air... whats next, timing?
apparently the CDI's dont really play up ever, very rare for it to be a CDI issue, so what else could have sent the timing off?
The bike didnt suddenly stop running either, it got harder and harder to start, and would run terrible with load or high revs, apparently.

Does fuel flow when vacuum applied to tap, is vacuum hose in good condition? Poor flow from fuel tap will cause fuel starvation at high revs/load. Do the plugs come out wet after trying to start? Do you have a timing light?
