NC30 Wiring problems

Post by BillingCBR » Mon Feb 07, 2011 3:25 pm

Hey guys, got a problem with the '30, I could really use some help figuring out whats gone wrong in there so I can repair it, I have a multimeter, so if someone can help by telling me what points to check or something I'd really appreciate it

I had a Laserline 860 Alarm/immobilser on the bike when I bought it, it was wired in to the loom in 2 ways, 3 wires to the indicators (left, right and earth) and 4 wires to the loom, one going to earth at the reg/rec, 1 in the black/brown wire for the rear brake light, and 2 to the green/red coming from the starter relay. The green/red had been cut completely in half and then a wire from the alarm to each end.

When the alarm packed up and started not disarming the only thing that stopped working was the starter switch, everything else was fine, all of the lights, horn etc. The block connector on top of the relay was totally ruined and had to be destroyed to get it off. I have since repaired all of the wires, and fitted a new block connector, and on turning the key I have.....

....nothing, not a peep. I've checked it's not the ignition switch by fitting it to the CBR, and it works fine, so can only assume that something horrific has happened to either my battery or wiring elsewhere for this to happen, all of the fuses are fine, so I'm not too sure what the problem could be =/

I managed to find my multimeter, does anyone know whether I should be seeing 12V coming out of all of the female terminals? I'm crap with electrics, so wouldn't know what to try first, I know that the battery and ignition switch are fine, because I've checked the battery with the mulitmeter (12.1V and am currently topping the charge up just to make sure) and I've checked the switch by fitting it to my CBR and it works fine.

The fault must lie with the repairs to the wiring or in both of the relays I have, as it was fine before I cut the alarm out. Am I right in thinking that it's red on the left, black on the right of the solenoid as you look at it? The lead from the positive seems to go around the back and push the whole relay gubbins away from the battery tray, which doesn't seem right to me :S

Already done mate, I was going to keep it as it makes the insurance cheaper, but when it went wrong I decided it was time to get rid of it. I'll have a poke about, make sure there's no loose wires or connectors, and report back :peace:

Ive just repaired a loom for my RVF that had a alarm ripped out of it, mine was spliced in a different place but i basically just joined the wires back up that the alarm spliced into.

You've checked the main fuse havent you?

Yup, I made absolutely sure that it was fine, as are all of the connectors in the told of the starter relay. I'm wondering whether the solenoid is at fault =/

Right, you guys can have a laugh at my expense, when I took the old solenoid out the wires moved and rested the wrong way round, twat for brains here hooked the solenoid up the wrong way around   I just had a feeling I'd done it wrong, so decided to go check whether it fitted the other way around.

Now I shall hang my head in shame, and stand in the corner
