The chain is probably just wearing in. Pretty sure I had to tighten mine every 50 miles or so after fitting new C&S's.

The chain will likely tighten if the hub slips whilst riding, look where the hub lies in the swinging arm, but doubt if it moves when bolt is tightened.
Check slack in all positions for loose/tight spots.
Check tension after hub pinch bolt is tightened, as sometimes hub turns round when the bolt clamps up the hub.

if its one of those "elastic" chains on ebay made by triple S or some other dog shit brand for around £3 then take it and throw it away before you get hurt and replace with a proper chain.

after losing a chain at speed, it's not something i skimp on now. and the tszubaki i have on my 750 has never needed adjusting in 2 years and 3k

Agreed on this. Tsubaki (B+C's favourite barnd) chains are ace. I had a gold one on my last CB-1 and it was mint.

Careful that you are not over tightening it. Remember that as the suspension moves through its travel the distance between front and rear sprockets increases. The chain will stretch very quickly to match this if you overtighten it. This is the fastest and most galling way to knacker a chain.

Use a marker pen to stick a small mark on the hub and swingarm, and then youll be able to tell I'd the hub is slipping as the lines will move out of alignment.

I agree with the chain comments, don't skimp out on them.

And new chains WILL stretch to an extent
