Has anybody got any advice on how to go about doing it?

I carnt get them to seat properly,I have fitted the new rubbers to the heads,and tryed fitting the carbs on top but cannot get them to line up.


Any advice would be great.

try a small and i mean minimal amount of lube on the insides of the rubbers. then jam the front ones on and then lever the back ones in. take care to make sure the rubbers do not fold in on themselves so have a flat headed screw driver handy to make sure they dont fold in.
other than that, nothing makes it easier than practice!!

I pop the front in, lean on it a touch and then try to line the rears as much as possible. The a slim flat bladed screwdriver tio stop the carb edge catching on the rubber.

Bit of brute force/fat friend and then they might pop in...

out of interest -did you buy Honda rubbers or the chinese ones?

RVF standard rubbers are the law...pop in straight off compared to the VFR ones..

Me too. If you pop the front ones in too much you won't be able to get the back ones in.

Make sure you have them up the right way and facing in the proper direction also.


I've used chinese copy ones with success, only time will tell if they age as well as genuine honda ones but are a world better than dried out old crusty ones to work with!

Sorting out anything to do with the carbs is something I hate doing because I know they'll be a bitch to get back on.
Not sure if there's a knack, just ther application of brute force and heel fire rage.

Easiest way is to just sit them on loosely then get a thick block of wood that can sit across the tray in between the rubber bell mouths then hit wood with large hammer(needs to be something heavier than a standard claw hammer) if done properly you should only have to hit the block of wood once.I have used this technique successfully a number of times

i fitted nc35 carb rubbers on my 30 wich make it a little easyer to get them back on as they are a bit more tapered than the 30 rubbers, i wouldent even like to guess how manny times iv had my carbs on & off over the years but i find it easyest to get the rear cylinders in with a rubber mallet & a block of wood then you can knock the front ones in, just make sure you dont put the wood on the carb body as iv broken 2 sets of carbs doing that, place the wood on the carb bracket that the air box screws onto, and TAP them in, dont go nuts, they are a tight fit but be carefull, dont just keep whacking it in the same place either tap them all the way round so they seat evenly, i allways smear a little bit of grease around the inlet rubbers to aid the fitting process, hope this helps.
