I posted a week or 2 ago in the new members section (Hello nc30) and put up a few pics, well the bike is painted up now and the mot is on Monday. I took it down the road today and to my devestation it was miss firing, it just wouldnt pick up
A bit of a long story so here are the pics first









So i bought the bike last year, im a complete novice by the way i only know what i know from reading threads on here, When i bought it the guy said it had racing carbs on there was a flat spot between around 5k and 8k. Due to lack of experience i dropped it at low speed just trying to get it home as it was seriously over heating, the coolant was boiling under the seat. So i decided to put things as standard as i could. When i took the tank off i saw that the air box had the front cut off and a pair of tights accross the front as a filter??? took that off and the carbs off which had the intake rubbers cut off. I replaced both of these with standard ones i got off e bay along with the spark plugs. Thats all i have done i didnt clean the carbs out as i didnt want to disturb anything and i have never done it before i was just hoping they would be ok. I know from looking on here that it could be a number of things i just dont know where to start, i would have liked to have taken it for a run to see exactly what its doing but with no mot or tax i dont want to risk it. I really hope its something simple, is there any way to upload a video so everyone can hear it?

orite jamie, your bikes looking well there mate! i like what you have done.. ROLL ON MONDAY EH! im sure these guys on here can help you resolve your missfire problem.. i know how much effot you have put into your NC30, you will be reaping the rewards Soon enough.

you'll need to be rejetting the carbs mate. If it was setup to run with only some tights as a filter then it will be too rich by miles.

Get the carbs off, check the main jet sizes. Let us know.

I did change the carbs that were on it for some standard ones and a standard air box off ebay. My worry is could something have been damaged when it overheated that would cause this. I will get the hanes book out and read up on checking the jets I have never had carbs apart before so how far will i need to go to check the jets and is there anything i should be careful of, i dont want to unscrew something and loads of bits fall out

If you bought some carbs and then just fitted them I would reckon they either need cleaning or rejetting anyways.

What have you done with your old ones? If you have them, wanna flog them?

Mate of mine just moved back to Barrow so I'll get him to come have a look if possible?
He has an FZR400 and I bought his NC30 off him to make my race bike out of it..

Fettling carbs is straightforwards - just do 1 at a time and put them all to std and go from there. Easy work, just take your time.

If you want them carbs he can come and have a look no problem, i just put them in a box in my garage after taking them off. They will need a clean as i said the previous owner was running the bike with the air box cut open and some tights as a filter,
