picked up an r6 regulator and want to change over from the original one before it decides to spit the dummy, have read some of the posts regarding doing this mod and was wondering if anyone sold a plug and wiring kit pre-made for switching them or could tell me whats required parts wise as i don't have a soldering iron crimping tools etc :?:

The yamaha reg/recs takes 5 standard female spade connectors (6.3mm). It's best to solder these to the wiring otherwise they could cause nuisance later down the track. I usually crimp them first and then tak them with solder.

Why not buy a soldering iron and give it a go?

thanks stickshift, did you do away with the multi-plug at the other end and renew the wiring from it to the regulator if so what gauge of wire do i require ? the regulator on mine is mounted further back on the subframe nearer the tail which i think was a vain attempt on uk spec bikes to aid cooling of it, will check my local maplin shop see whats available and give it a go.

I haven't replaced the wire (condition was fine), I just cut off the honda plug and soldered some new connectors on the end.

Sorry to ask a daft question, but how do you know which wire goes where?

That's not daft, you'll blow the fuse if you get the red and green backwards. I had to look at pics of other to see which way around these 2 went.

It doesn't matter which yellow wire goes where though.

Cool. I might try this one. Think my reg/rec is on its way out. Sometimes when I'm riding at night my headlights suddenly become a load brighter and I'm guessing it's the reg/rec allowing some sort of power surge? It's fairly intermittent, but I thought it might be early signs of it failing.

Uninsulated spade connectors? Are you not worried they might touch? Or did you insulate them after that pic was taken!

Hi There,
other then this being a comon modification, how else do you know this reg/rec suits the nc30? what revs does it start charging the battery at? and how many volts does it send to the battery at what revs? my standard regulator sends 14V to the batery at 4k revs, have been told thats a good charge rate but I cant get it out my head that 14v charge rate is to much for a 12v battery? :?
