hi all its been a while since iv been on the site or on my nc30 for that matter, any way iv been wanting to mildly tune & blue print my engine for a couple of years but i just cant bring myself to spend 2k getting it done profesionaly, so iv been reading a few books and have a good idea of what i want to do, like tidy up the ports equalise the combustion chambers re shape the ports, that sort of thing, i know the theory behind it all but i would like to see someone do it, so dose anyone know of a website or anywhere i can see video or pictures of this sort of work being done for referance, iv had a look on you tube but there isent much on there, i was allso wondering if you can buy an engine re-fresh kit? that has all the bits you need to do a rebuild like head gasket, piston rings, bearings, ect. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

im pretty much guessing what the usual replies will be to this thread and it will be "don't waste your money trying to gain more power"..........
best bet is to set the suspension up good and proper, then maybe do a few carb mods, airbox mods etc and fit a full exhaust system......experiment with different sprocket sizes.
there is only so much you can gain from the little 400 engine and for the money you could just get yourself something bigger.
another option is the big bore kit

i hear what you saying william but bigger isn't always better, and if stevie is the stevie i think he is the bike is pretty much sorted in every other department so playing with the motor is the last thing he can do,
unlike you stevie i'm just going to leave it up to the tuning guys to do a set of heads for me,i looked into them and personnally i think there is too much scope for me to mess them up, pm mark james as i know he ported as set of heads, junked the quietening gears and refitted them for his race bike, maybe he could help point you in the right direction,
as for a refresh kit, haven't heard of one but i know you can get a full gasket kit so when you strip and motor done you have all the nesscessary gaskets to get it back up and running again
good luck and i hope you do a topic about it ....

I would recommend the G |force site for ideas on your moto.
If you are going to take it to bits and do anything with it then maybe you need to see how far you want to go.
I did my race bike with my dremel and some paper - took the quietening gears out and re ground the valves. Not had the bike out in anger yet but it sounds sweet.
Getting the engine fully rebuilt with new bearings, rings and what not is a good start and so it might be worth getting some decent scales and weighing everything too. WOuld imagine you want the biggest DIY bang for the buck? careful rebuild should do it.
I recall that the rods, pins and pistons on the RVF have different weights and I was thinking to mix and match to make a lighte setup..but I don't know..lol
