I've got my MOT on the VFR next week (first once since I bought it)

Im worried it might fail on the rear numberplate being abit small. Am I right in thinking as a Jap import its allowed a slightly smaller plate?

I think its supposed to be the proper size, although this may be down to the discrestion of the tester.

I know post 2001 vehicles are much stricter on reg plates.

A japanese plate is really small, 6x4 I think. I've got a UK plate cut to the same size as a Jap spec one on my bike but the MOT tester said i'd need a bigger one

I'd have a word with your local tester and see what they say. If you need a bigger one get a cheap 3 / 4 quid jobbie off ebay and use it for MOT times.

I don't know if number-plate size is on the MOT checklist but a small number-plate is just giving PC Plod an excuse to pull you over and if he is in a bad mood or he needs to acheive his monthly target for crimes solved then you could end up with a fine.

my 2 friends always ran their kwaks with slighlty smaller than standard plates and they were always fine, for mot's and the good old plod.the police never noticed or commented on them at all,i believe this to be because even though they are smaller they are the same shape making it harder for them to notice.

i think the long narrow plates are just asking for trouble,i did see two bikes last year getting pulled for this.

Yes the one line plates are totally illegal.
My plate isnt small, (i'll have to measure it) Its just slightly smaller than a standard UK 2 line plate. I think I'll get another ordered thats the proper size just in case.
