Nobody makes an aftermarket filter as far as I am aware and so the standard Honda paper one is spot on. You can get pattern ones too that do the tricl.
Making one with foam is a ballache and unless you can be arsed fiddling the bike to make it run then stick to standard.
Saying that - my open airboxed, RVF carbed bike uses thin HRC foam and works alright...after a long time of fiddling
I am going to use standard filters on my race bike though..

I would get one from rick Oliver on here too..he is the man and it always helps when he sends you a sotcklist too...then you can go crazy on lighter bits!

keep it in the greybike family
I think he does pattern ones too that are reckoned to be as good as standard Honda

i tried messing about wiht the filter and it all went very wrong, get a standard in there unless you are getting the bike setup on a dyno then get a foam element to put in it, thats what im doing as i dont no much about carb tuning and qould rather give it to someone/get taught by somone in the no that play about with them myself
too many variables for my liking and i have no clue which to change, main jets pilot jets needles slides it all to much atm

I've had the PiperX foam on my RVF since November 2003 and to be honest apart from the convenience & cost factor (zilch, zip, nada...), I didn't notice any difference in performance at all; that's with both the standard zorst & the current Yamamoto system on! Standard jetting too! The Yammy zorst isn't the most 'open' of pipes, but it did boost power to about 60bhp! It runs just fine and the dyno man reckons it's fuelling right too!
