Just curious. I read that Kawasaki has claimed the ER-5 can run easily for 155,000 miles (or 240,000 km)

Is this possible or BS?

So far I have 70,000 (km) on mine and she runs well but she is showing signs of her age. Suspension is noticeably saggier, she can be a little finnicky to get back together (things don't seem to fit as well).....you know the story.

you will need to replace these parts sooner rather than later or overhaul them.so long as you keep the bike well mainatained and serviced then it should last for a long time.

I'm at 103,000 kms, had the front forks overhauled a couple of years ago and service the bike every year (oil change and check one year, full service the next). I clean the bike very regularly as living next t the sea the salt doesn't do it any favours. The only problem I have (touch wood) is electrical contacts need a thorough cleaning in the winter.

Superfourben,

So what did you do for your fork overhaul.

I've had bushings and seals done (three times in 30,000km on one side.....I have a nasty nick I can't seem to shake - buffed it out once). Front is pretty good after that but I've wondered about new springs and tubes.

Found an old pair of rears off an old Suzuki for my punched out Showas...mighty nice find.

How are your rear shocks holding up? Still on the originals?

The seal went on my RH fork so had new seals and new oil in both forks, still on the original springs. One of my front tubes has been straightened by a previous owner and I have been meaning to replace them for a couple of years, just haven't bothered as there really isn't anything wrong with them apart from a bit of pitting around the top. The rear shocks are still original and carry the occasional pillion. A member here had his rear shocks overhauled once, I can't remember what company did it but if you like I can reach him via another forum and find out who/how much?

Like all vehicles the answer depends on two things;firstly the amount and standard of maintenance;and secondly the way it is driven. If you never change gear until the valves bounce then it is going to wear out quicker.I f you never change the oil or get it serviced then it is going to wear out quicker.

Not quite the same but my VFR NC24 did over 120,000 MILES on it's original engine. That's Honda engineering for you, it's just about run in now

Oh, and a friend of mine owns an ST1100 with almost 400,000 miles on the clock and that's still on it's original engine. Impressive, eh?

A friends dad used to tour on an ST1100 which had similar mileage. There was a 1996 Blade in my local Honda dealership about 6 months back with 150,000 on the clock.
