I am trying to pull the stanctions out of the lowers of my forks.
i have dont everything according to the haynes manual. but they wont coma apart.
when i try an slide them so the lower bush strikes the upper bush - and hence push the oil seal, it is as if the tube is not running smooth, and it jams in the extanded position - dso i have the whack the stanction onto the fllor to get it to inset so i can strike again.
anyone else experienced this?

more than likely the lower bush has slid into the upper bush and are jammed together which will probably mean replacing the bushes, i would give greame france a call he would probably give you the best advice and you could order some new bushes while your at it

I did have problems doing this on mine however was lucky in the end..

hold the tube horizontally and give it several hard tugs..

if it comes out and the bushings have slid on to eachother they will require replacement along with the oil seals..

if it doesnt pop out you will probably have to cut the old fork lowers off and get some new ones.. graeme can sort you out..

good luck!

wat you wana do to them? new springs/oil?

I took these to work today.
the sticking was the bushes trying to go under each other. a tad of removed teflon - but im hoping to be able to re-use them, the teflon was quite thick on the bushes.

in the end i dug a screw driver into the seal and prized it out. then pulled them apart.
in doing other options i have ruined the top nut!
i just want to replace the oil seal.

ah thats a shame mate, i think if the bushes come off you should replace them.. also check them for damage..

the bush from the bottom of the forkstanction is ok just a bit of the teflon damaged.

what is more annoying is that in tryin to sepparate the stanctions i put a big iron bar inside the stanction, as i pulled them apart, the bar pushed out he end top nut! so i need to try and find one of them too!
tryin to desperatly get the bike though an mot, and its not going well lol

i had the same thing on my old 29 where the lower bush came out under the top bush, i had to heat the fork lower up with a blowlamp to get the bush out but it all went back together ok with only the oil seal and dust seal replaced and worked fine after.

m8 and i changed my NC29 seals last yr.
we put a socket extension bar thru the axle pin hole. put one end of the bar in a bench vice.
pushed the fork tube in to the leg and pulled hard!
used a rubber mallet to release tube as bush had jammed each time.
after 5 pulls the tube separated from leg. 2nd fork only took 3 pulls to separate.

I had this problem when doing the seals on my NC23. Had to heat the lowers with a blowtorch with the lowers in a vice and then pull the tubes out. The forks seemed fine to begin with but within a few hundred miles they have developed a serious leak. Need to speak to Graeme to see if he has any ideas why. :(

cheers for all the replies.
I refitted the seal using a screw driver and not replacing copper washers.
suprise suprise they leaked!
i dont the other leg, they came apart easier, i heated each washer red hot and let them cool before using them again, fitted new seal with an old seal and hey presato fitted them an they dont leak.
so tonight i have to re-fit another set of seals to the original fork.
lol.
cress - did u re-use the brass/copper washers?
