Hiya All,

RE:NC29 is dripping Petrol from "Top" and stinks of petrol...

I was starting her up today, ready for the summer. Bast*rd of a time, as usual, try and trying. I noticed Petrol leaking out from the "top" area, and dripping down onto the floor etc! If the Carbs are flooded - can they simply drip out like that? Or is something amiss??

Are NC29's prone to having Petrol leaking from the "top" Ie the Carbs area etc??? I hear its not unusual to have CBR400s smelling of petrol. Nothing to worry about, unless still there after a few days unused.

Bike started in the end. Ran fine, as always. Stinks of petrol though, as always....

Had my NC29 for a year, and done 2K miles last summer. Its always stunk of petrol, and has a oily mess over the bellypan fairing. I just assumed it was the Scottoiler going nuts, and flinging everywhere. (NB:It hasn't drunk a drop of Engine oil since I had her.)

I'm know now, its petrol thats causing that mess. This brings up some questions:

Questions:
1) She is running fine as always - do I just leave until I get here Dyno jetted this year, and get workshop to sort out?

2) Is there some easy common culprits I can look for? Eg Carbs Screwed down tightly etc?

3) Is it simply those Carb Gaskets (£22 a Gasket?!!!?) - ie i should just leave the bike stinking, and try not to flood the Carbs so often??

Hope you can Advise!

Cheers
Martin

mine stinks of petrol too, i wouldnt imagine its too much of a problem though cuz the feul pump is switched of when the ignition is switched of, you mite have the same problem, my guess would be a sticky float valve or something. worth giving the carbs a clean then see buddy. i would do mine but its in the garage at the minute.

Checked bike - not a drop of petrol under bike at all over the last 2 days! We had a good rideout on Sunday, 120 miles - not dripping petrol. Engine was running well.

Thinking about it:

To resserect the bike from the winter:

1) I had the kill switch off, and turn't over the engine a few times. To circulate oil over the bone dry top end. (The Engine oil is dead clean and clear btw)
2) Then I had some trys starting the bike, with Choke on etc.

Could this have been the reason for all that petrol dripping from the top end?!?!!?

Hope you can advise!
