hi all,
im having some problems with my bike i was riding along it started to die on me so i look down n its done 140miles since i filled it so i turn it to the reserve, it picks up again then within 1 minute the engine changes sound n i start getting vibration all over, so i pull over and as i stop the bike dies??

since then i've filled her up with bp ultimate, riden home 15miles, n the bike pulls fine, took it to the redline no trouble, but the noise is still there. the noise is a deeper tone, and it sounds lumpier more like a v twin at lower revs.

ive checked all the spark plugs n im getting sparks from all, had a play with the kill switch, the oil is fine, air filter is new, n ive sprayed some carb cleaner in the trumpets.

im at a loss
some plz help

cheers gaz

hello mate, first time I ran out of petrol I thought that something bad was happening! managed to switch it just in time while riding..

What your talking about does sound like fuel starvation (im no expert just a long shot) have you tried putting it back off the reserve to see if it works ok then?

i just tried that, no change. is that possible as its now got a full tank n its done 15 miles since i filled it up

i was thinking carb balancing, or checking that the jets were clear, or checking compresion, but i dont no im clutching at straws?

anyone? cheers gaz

Hows your oil looking?? :?:
I would be sightly worried to b honest and would be dropping the oil to make sure there were no bits of crank shell in it..or amything other than nice oily oil. :o

Any obvious metallic sheen, brass bits or the like and you are buggered. Get it droped into a clean container so you can have a good look at it. :|

This is worst case scenario time but hey - probably not gonna be your fuelling as you filled it up and it works..

Mate of mine broke his SV650.. clattering and clunking tractor noises and it would still rev....until it just plain died and seized solid.

when you get excessive vibration it is usually related to running on 3 or even 2 cylinders.you say you have checked the sparks but what about fuel???is fuel getting to all 4 cylinders?

next time you start the bike check and make sure all 4 downpipes are heating up and hot,if any are clearly colder than the others then you know its only firing on the hot ones.

electrical problems can sometimes be intermittent so the plugs may spark well when you checked them nut later on whilst out on the bike it may be a different story.

all 4 exhausts r heating up nicely, so i'd assume that means they're all getting fuel.

today i took the bike to my bike club n hooked it up to one of those manometers i think thats wot its called( the compression gauge thing) anyway i checked the carb syncronization, n it was quite badly off so i sorted that out, but it still had the same vibe n noise but it was less peaky.

so i decided while it was in bits i would clean out the carbs so got them off n cleaned out the float chambers, n the jets etc.. with carb cleaner n compressed air n put them bk together.

then i found a frayed trottle cable so i cant put it bk to gether n test it till i get a new one

so any more ideas while shes in bit?

cheers gaz

its still in pieces at the moment, im still waiting on the throttle cable. i was kinda hoping it would have turned up by now, i'll let you know how it goes, n if i need any bits thanks.

i did do some work while i have it in pieces though, i took the mono shock and swing arm linkage out, cleaned them all n re-greased them.
