At the moment i am still sorting out my track/commuter/bad weather/carazy assed bitchin nc30.

a few questions about using it as a daily commuter. a good chance soon i may have to do a travel 60 mile round to work daily. so i am wanting to make it as fuel efficient as i can for motorway mileage.

plan so far
1. use standard nc35 exhaust plus standard can
2. jet back to 115/118, and standard nc30 carb settings.
3. standard air filter.
4. change gearing to 16/39 or 16/38, (need a bit of advice on this one)
5. then your usual tyre pressure, drive in high gear low revs, bla bla bla business

these be my plans to get the most out of a tank i can for commuter travel.

on reading some specs on standard nc30, apparently in standard trim, it can do 160mile to the tank, or just shy of 140mile before hitting reserve. anyone experience this? i can only get 100 mile before i hit reserve on the nc35, but i have a race system on and jetted to suit plus i ride the nuts off it.

another question while i am at it. anyone fit one of those chain oilers to an nc30? work ok?

I dont want to be rude but, if your a bit eeeerrrr big you'll get less to the gallon, i get about 140ish motorway miles maybe a bit more on me nc30 with a race pipe, filter, jets etc, but i only weigh 8.5 stone on a heavy day.
Only hint is to coast as much as possible, and try to keep a constant speed.
I had a scott-oiler thingy but i took it off, i didnt see the point of dragging it about with me when i had a tin of chain lube at home, i dont do lots of miles so i think one would help if i was using the bike everyday.

if it is well maintained and you don't ride the nuts off it you should manage well over the 100 miles to reserve that you manage the now.i also would put the gearing back to standard or go down at the rear.the last thing you want is gearing set up for faster acceleration if you are trying to get more mpg.smaller front and bigger rear =acceleration and vice versa.

I commuted 100,000 miles (mostly motorway) on an NC30, 90 miles / day for a number of years.

Just had a standard bike plus:

regular servicing (inc Oil + filter changes every 4000 miles)
bridgestone BT92 (dual compound) on the back and BT090 up front (grippier and wears more evenly than a BT92) - 6000 miles out of each roughly
scott oiler (later added the dual side chain oiler fitting) - used to get a good 15/20000 miles out of a chain & sprocket set, maybe more
renthal hardened rear sprocket, genuine front
x ring chain
last but not least, big smile on my face missing all the traffic :-)

used to be able to do a a day and a half before refilling - so about 135miles to the tank no probs.
riding at 85mph, mostly just in top gear.

I get about 60-65mpg out of mine. Only had 120 miles to a tank before filling up but then again, it only filled up with 8.4l at that point.

I usually stick to 70mph though, which can be hard for some folk to do!!!

Don't see any upside in going backto a standard exhaust and muffler.

Make sure it is well maintained and tuned (not running rich).
Gear it close to standard, too low and you will be revving too high, to high and you will be lugging the engine at cruise speed.

All the rest comes down to the right wrist action.

I was wondering if the legendry mr gunthor whould show up here, some say he overtook ewan and charlie on thier long way round trip - twice !!, some also say he had to have the NC30 surgicaly removed before he changed it to a NC35. All we know is that he doesnt get on here much as he's always in the saddle of his trusty V4.

LOL, not been riding much the last few years, only done a few thousand miles on the RVF. Currently cycling to work in Cardiff from Caerphilly!

Did make it out for a spin on the 35 last weekend though (along with everyone else on two wheels it seems! :-)

i only have a 30 mile round trip commute on my nc30, but i do thrash it so i get about 85 ish miles to 10quid of fuel. ive put an nc35 rear wheel in mine, so i can use my race scrubs (saves me buying road tyres, as ill be buying race tyres anyway). just make sure you give it regular oil changes.

I get 250km a tank from full -> Res (155 miles)
