damn arthritis to hell
After alot of soul searching i guess its time i stopped riding as its getting dangerous with both the throttle wrist and my clutch hand, and damn painful
tried a few friends bikes and had same probs with clutch action too so its not the poor sf's fault. maybe if my wrist improves i could ride a scoot? rofl
maybe one day theyll sort me out and i can ride again.. till then thanks for every drop of advice, encouragement, lols, and parts too.
best wishes to you all, ride fast but safe, please do scare wildlife on a regular basis and also maybe pop the odd wheelie but not post it on youtube.
my wife is overjoyed, im fucking devastated.

Re: damn arthritis to hell
Sorry to hear your pains are so bad you have to stop for a while. Arthritis is no fun.
The problem with bigger bikes is that they often have strong handlebar vibrations. Bar weights and carb balancing can remedy this to some extend. You can ease the cable operation with cleaning and oiling but you may have tried that already. The CB400 is by no means exceptionally heavy to operate, compared to other bikes but when I first started with the CB400 I found it tough going. I had just upgraded from a 125.
I would suggest take some rest and try a lighter bike later for fun. I moved up from the Yamaha YBR 125 and that was a very easy to operate bike. In terms of throttle and clutch much lighter than the CB400. Also less handlebar vibrations. The YBR is not expensive to buy and cheap to run. Had to sell mine a month ago.

Re: damn arthritis to hell
my friend has an fz6s2 his clutch seems twice as heavy as the good old cb tbh,
i intentionally got the cb as i thought itd be ok, earlier in life the gsxr750L was fine and the fzr1000 was ok. but after the break from biking and stuff the cb seemed the right one for getting started again. think ill stay clear of all bikes for a while and hope the flareups go down. i havent tried sportsbike position at speed for a while so may give it a go but i got a feeling it gonna hurt too, but ill keep u posted if i find something above c90 levels that works lol

Re: damn arthritis to hell
Probably not your first option but a cruiser style bike may get you back onto the road.
Bugger all weight on you your wrists/hands with them.

Re: damn arthritis to hell
that ball deffo looks worth a try, i have an rsi in right wrist as well as arthritis in left hand so maybe its worth a bash as so cheap too! booked to see doc for later this month as well so hopefully can get some kind of help for clutch hand. the rsi i dont wear a support as imo it weakens the muscle over time which aggrivates the injury.. i just wear one for a coupla days if it gets too sore.
thanks for all your ideas and sympathies peeps and also the encouragements! its been a soul searching kinda weekend and its rly helped to have your inputs. feeling a little more positive now that maybe eventually this can be conquered good enuff to ride properly.

Re: damn arthritis to hell
sorry to hear about the arthritis. Completely sucks and I know where you're coming from. I thought I wouldn't be able to walk properly every again a few years back cause I had a bad flare up of arthritis pain (explosion was more like it). It hurt to put my leg down at red lights, cramped up like hell on long trips and my poor elbows and wrists just didn't have the juice to keep holding me on the bike. Actually I took up riding motorcycles because of it...I couldn't ride my bicycle anymore. It was painful but at least I wasn't going to kill my self out of depression. Things got better though.
Keep the chin up, watch what you eat (lots of greens, cut down or cut out starch and carbs, cut out sugar, coffee, beer) and get the doctors to line you up with the best meds for your condition. If they keep telling you to settle down and live with it, tell them to kindly kiss your arse cause you have a life to live.
I've been relatively good for about a year now and I don't take meds these days. Still can't drink much (booze, cigarettes and coffee are a real killer....too much sugar doesn't help either). Keep up with mild exercise when possible.
Good Luck!!!

Re: damn arthritis to hell
I'm very sorry to hear this. But have you thought about bikes like the aprilia 850 mana? I believe it's a semi automatic, so no need to operate the cluthch. If I'm not mistaking, it doesn't even have a clutch lever. Just like the Yamaha FJR 1300 SA.
The only problem about those bikes is that they are so new, that a secondhand one isn't available, and new might be too expensive? But if you have the money to buy a new one I would definetely consider the aprilia.
Good luck! And I hope you can ride again soon....
