Going to do the Valve clearances this weekend while the carbs are off and bike is in bits.

I have a set of feeler gauges that go 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 and so on in increments off 0.05 are this suitable to doing the Valve clearances I notice on sheets people writing down very precise measurements like 0.13. If these are no good any recommendations where to source any or am I being a spoon?

i did mine with the same size gauges.

for example if a 0.15 is loose and a 0.20 was too tight to get the feeler gauge in then id go for 0.17.
Not perfect but it did the job

Wizard, go to Halfords and buy a cheap feeler guage and get the job done right. I don't have every feeler needed, but if a 0.13 fits too easily and a 0.15 just won't fit then it must be a 0.14 gap.

Oh yeah I want to do it properly. One step better I borrowed a MAC tools set from a mate who works for Audi. Has increments on 0.01 right from 0.05 up to 0.30 should do the job nicely

On a side note one of his mechanics there dropped a clip into the intake on an Audi RS6 (new one) and they cannot retrieve it or see it with a small camera, pokey tools, or grabbers. Looking like it might need the engine taking out

Cheers guys :)

All done. Only two were out to tolerance, luckily on the outlet for number one cylinder so nice and easy to get too. Just got to get some shims that will bring them back into line.

£1 :o Bit pricey for me ;)

Thanks for the info. I have PM Graeme if he has no joy then I shall contact Rick.

I managed to extract the two shims without droping them down into the engine
