Got my bike running nice but fan not working!!!! Help please

Hi there
took my carbs off and cleaned them and got the bike out for a run and it is running really nice, when I got back thought I would let it run a little and see if the fan works, well it doesnt.
Temp gauge got upto about just over half way and no fan...
Is there any way I can check to see if it works? Any other tips etc or how to wire it upto a switch or get it working properly.
Just out of interest though, how far should the needle get before it kicks the fan in?
Cheers
Steve

The temp needle goes up prety far before it kicks in. Well over 90.
I don't run a fan anyways so not great loss
You can trip the fan to see if it works but I don't know how..lol - Do a quick search for it mate as I am sure it has been discussed several times..
Failing that, my good mate Wullvfr will be along in a tick as we seem to double team problems at the minute (eh Will?)

pull the blade connector off side of radiator and connect to earth/frame.

easiest way to do it is like what thrasher says, but because the connector is female you may need to use a jumper wire to earth it.
simply get a piece of wire you do not need and bare each end.disconnect connector from thermo switch and using the wire earth it with the ignition on...........
the fan should come on,this indicates the fan works!!!!
but the fault may lie with the thermo switch itself.
i suggest you let the gauge go way up past half, past 90.the fan should come on at 98c-102c.
if the fan comes o with the earthing test but fails to come on when it heats upto that temp then the problem lies within the thermo switch or a poor earth with the bottom radiator.........

Hi mate
thanks for the reply.
So basically take switch off use a jumper and earth it. If it works may need thermo switch? Where is the thermo switch located and where would I get one?
How hard is it to re-wire to a switched fan incase all else fails?
Cheers

the thermo switch is located on the lower radiator....the top of the left hand side!!!!
if the fan does come on,double check that you are allowing the temperature to get high enough for the fan to come on before condemning the thermo switch.
also check the fuse!!!!!

it is very simple to fit a manual switch for working the fan if that is what you mean!!

the needle usually gets about 3/4 of the way.........
a good bit past the 90!!!!!!
is the bike nc30,there should be a fuse box underneath the pillion seat.....
remove the cover and on the cover it should indicate what fuse is for what!!!!
it is a 10a fuse!!!!!
as for the manual switch,i would buy a piggy back crimp, wire and a switch.thats all you need!!!
