Ok, embarrasingly, I saw a thread on here a while back for exactly the same thing, but cant seem to find it.

Newly powder coated wheel, applied to NC30 rear hub and like a moron didnt buff off the excess in the holes, now i cant get the f@cker off. Currently ive got the entire hub out to replace the disc, but cant seperate the 2 as the powder coating has power welded itself on.

Tried heating it ( only have a hot air gun not oxy acetylene ), WD40 on it, Tried a large piece of wood direct onto the wheel wrapped in rags as the powder coating is brand new and it wont budge, the disc is past best anyway so dont mind applying some direct violence to it as its getting replaced anyway.

Anyone offer any advice on getting it off?

Sounds like you are going to have to hit it harder...

obviously a 'rubber' mallet should not damage the wheel/powder coating

but be careful,last thing you want to do is damage the wheel after having it powdercoated.

loosen off the wheel nut slighlty and go for a very short journey,up and down your drive......

see if that helps dislodge it.

maybe worth a try if youv'e not already get some mates assist you the heavier the better leave the nut on a good few threads and try and use the weight of the bike over on its left on the whilst gripping the wheel the powder coat maybe sticking in the locating dowels .

Bugger saw the thread title and really wanted to just say "whack repeatedly with rubber mallet" must answer faster !

Done the same stoopid thing myself and I'm afraid rubber mallet the only so;ution - hit the tyre though it seems to cause more vibration or gives more leverage or summat plus it wont bugger your wheels up !

that did the trick for me, went a little further than just the end of my drive. horrendously dangerous you may say but after serious belting with a mallet for half an hour, i would have tried most things.

just be sure to put in the split pin with the loosened wheel nut.

I found that getting someone to try to wiggle it from top to bottom while you hit the wheel does the job. Just don't hit their hands!

Hi there,

It was my problem you are referring to. Guess what... My wheel stayed on.
I tied everything including riding with the nut undone (my own bright idea at the time)
If yours is as stubborn as mine don't even bother with mallets and shit.
I just got myself a huge bearing puller. Will try it out shortly.
It just won't be able to resist this tool. Tread operated large puller should do the trick. I'll let you know how it went in few days.

Quick solution, i stripped out the Hub with the wheel still attached, took it to the local bike shop and with a bit of magic and £5 later the two parts were separated :D

Out to the garage tonight to grind of the offending powder coating and fit new disc before putting it all back together again.

moral of the story - i was being bone idle lazy by not buffing off the powder coating in the areas i should have
