also check air filter, for this does cause probs if taken out or dirty....
exup cables should be slightly loose to much tension stops the motor working...
also check to see if it makes a noise on the turn of the key...

at the turn of the key u can hear the exup valve and motor doing its cycle so im sure its working fine however the manifold has been removed and refitted hense why im thinking maybe the exup valve hasnt been set up correctly. i cant tell u how the bike was running before the manifold removed as i didnt have my licence then so tinkered with it before i passed my test.lajracing wrote:also check air filter, for this does cause probs if taken out or dirty....

i found this link http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35405" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is this a similar way to set up an exup valve even tho the bike in question is an R1?

yes that is the right way to set up the exup valve and also make sure you have the cables on the right way, when you turn the ig switch on the motor should pull the valve ope to the right and back to the left....
good luck

check the bearings on the inside aswell thats what went on mine and spent days chasing it. you have to pull the casing off the side be careful thoughnot to shear the bolts.

I'd add to that forum's notes ...slacken off the adjusters and lock the exup in place. When you tighten the adjusters only do them finger tight, don't use spanners.

ok well just to clarify and not to get confused if i take the end can off so i can look down the manifold to see the valve, when i turn the ignition on the valve should open, then close? so that when i hit the start switch the valve should be in the closed position? and hense when i ride the valve should open under acceleration? or have i got this totally wrong?
oh and thanx for all the replys!!

should be closed at lower revs to increase backpressure then open up as revs/speed increase yes!
