VFR400 NC21/24 Fork height

Hi, Does anyone have the fork height for a nc21/24 from the axle to the top yoke uncompressed?

I have a vfr400k that for some reason has a front end from an 86-87 vfr750 fitted (from factory as far as i can tell) so im not sure what the correct fork height is supposed to be. They did have the machined grooves but these disappered after they were rechromed and would be for a different bike anyway.

It currently seems abit too twitchy and am hoping to get a factory setup to start trying to improve it and work from there.

Thanks

Correct me if I am wrong but don't the fork tubes slide through the top triple clamp and then the each handle bar to finish flush with the top of the handle bar. If the steering is a bit twichy try sliding the fork tubes further through the triple clamps and handle bars. Part number for 1986 vfr750 and 1986 vfr400 Nc24 are different although similar in appearance. I would think internal parts are also different, springs , valving etc.

I do need to test different fork heights, i was just hopping i could get the exact numbers to know im starting from where it should be. I guess i'll just have to set my forks to flush with the top of my handle bars and try adjusting it from there. Replacment tubes for the 750 are listed as ~50mm longer which is why im hoping for an actual measurment if possible.

I'm confident that it's a vfr750 front end as the part numbers cast into them are all ML7 rather than ML0. Plus the fork internals matched the specs and parts diagram for them, a wierd shaped plastic spacer rather than just a tube and a smaller diameter step between the lower bushing and the sliding part of the stantion which isnt there on any part diagrams for the 400s. It might have different valing and springs but the springs matched the 750 service specs when i was rebuilding them. It also has 30mm pistons calipers and disc size matching the 750 along with the wheel and mudguard having the ML7 parts stamp.

I suspect its just a quirk of being a 1990 training school bike and them just using leftover parts to put it together as the nc30 was out by then. I found found a traing school bike specfic part diagram it they use the 30mm 750 braking setup but the nc24 forks. Another option is someone could have transplanted the front end before before i bought it, i just dont know why they would do that. There are some other quirks about the bike compared to the regular nc21/24.

You make a good point about the valving and springs, maybe i will just need to commit to a new set of springs and an emulator to get it riding nicely

My mistake, sliding the fork tubes through the triple clamps would make the steering quicker. I did this with my NC30 because I found the steering too slow. Lifting the front of your bike will slow the steering. If there is sufficient space, you could try placing the clipons under the top triple clamp and then sliding the fork tubes through the top tripe clamp to be flush.
