Prob be on here on already but need quick answers, just found that i've got to take the hub out to get rear disc on, so while i'm at it i'll just re-grease it, if so what grease is best used?

Also fitting new pistons and seals on rear caliper, what lube/grease is best used, that is safe for the seals and fine for pistons? as i've heard that copper grease over time hardens the rubber seals

Cheers Guys an Gals ;)

Hiya,
I'd put some high temp lithium grease on the hub bearing, you'll need some rubber lube for the caliper, its special brake seal/piston grease that you can get from a motor factors ( i dunno if halfords sell it), the stuff i get is made by lockheed who make calipers etc, and the field mouse that lives in me garage seems to love eating the stuff!!!!!!!
Cheers
Ian

I've always used 'red rubber grease' for pistons & caliper seals.

Any decent motorfactors should have it, a tub will last a lifetime.

"Castrol Red Rubber Grease is formulated for rubber to rubber lubrication where any effects such as hardening or swelling of the rubber must be avoided. It can therefore be used on automotive hydraulic brake and clutch components where compatibility with natural rubber and SBR seals is involved. It may also be used to assist assembly of natural and synthetic rubber components for automotive brake and clutch systems and suspension units."

As for the hub, I can't recall what the service manual says but i'd go with Moly grease. (the black nasty stuff)

I have replaced the disc on mine without removing the hub.

Would recomend against using moly grease on frictionless bearings (ball and roller races)
Molly is brilliant on bushes but not so great on bearings as it can cause the rollers to skid.

like neo say's,moly grease is recommended for most bearings,or a lithium based multi-purpose grease....

the grease i used when i done my hub was i believe a lithium based grease, sadly there is no reference to what type it is....i think the grease had been transferred to a different tub.

it has served me well
