Intermittent loss of power

I've just changed the Reg/Rec, but if I go for a ride and leave the bike stand for any more than an hour, I seem to rapidly switch to two cylinders after a short time (with lights on) and stall. i've checked voltage output from the battery ( without lights ) At 14.3V@ 5K, with lights on @ 13.3V@5K. if I turn off the lights after she stalls, she'll fire immediatedly and run fine. Surely 13.5V is plenty of voltage? I can't check the alternator because of the type of meter I have, but its obviously working ok with those outputs?
Any ideas???

13.5 v with lights is more than enough,and 14.3v without is plenty!!!!
i would double check earths,and check your coils as you say it appears to run on two cylinders at some point before stalling.
a good charge rate is between 13.5-15v @5000rpm(without lights)...........
because your charge rate is good then the alternator is working,but if you manage to get hold of a multimeter it may be worth while testing the output just to be sure

Thanks william,
I'll look at the earths though I only cleaned those up recently 7 I'll borrow a different meter to test the alternator. Am I right in saying that the alternator test is done at 5K also, and the negative of the meter must be on an earth?

the best place to do the alternator test is by unplugging the block connector by your right knee........
its the one with the three wires.you want the one coming from the alternator,female connector i think.
the test is done with the bike @5000rpm and with the multimeter set to ac volts and if it has different range settings set it to 100 or higher.
take three seperate readings,because it is a three phase alternator and you do this by putting the positive probe in to one connection and the negative in to another,and then into another until you have taken three seperate readings
the readings should be all the same and at least 50 volts.
i reckon yours will show these results but you never know

Check the condition of the plugs, conections and wiring from the reg/rec to the engine, etc. Replace anything that looks dodgy with good connections, solder all replacement parts in.
Burnt out components are pretty common once the reg has failed, this can lead to intermittent charging.
