Left hand switchgear on NC24 not working properly...

Went out for a quick spin yesterday evening. (Mad I know!)

Main and dip beam push button switch seems to have packed in  . Lights now stuck on main beam only, dip will not activate. Anyone had this problem before, and does anyone know the cure? New switchgear or is it fixable?

Just when I thought it was all sorted and 100%.......oh well.

where do you store the bike? how well do you maintain it.

it sometimes happens that the contacts gunk up and need to be cleaned wit a quick wipe with wet and dry to freshen up the brass contacts. other than that taking them apart and spraying with contact cleaner sometimes work (has never do so for me tho)

in any case take it off and take it to pieces!!

as declan says, any problems with the switchgear usually results in needing stripped down and cleaned........

i reckon your problem is not dirt related, take the switch apart and more importantly take apart the main and dipped beam switch....i believe you will notice inside it may have fell apart.....or it wont be as it should be.there is a metal needle type thing(technical term i believe  ) that leans on the centre contact that is raised up.be careful though, there is a spring inside this switch and if you are not careful it will go flying....a tip someone gave me on here is take it apart inside a plastic bag.after checking this and if it is obvious what was wrong, you can check the main/dipped button is clicking in and out without having to put the switchgear back together....saving a lot of hassle.

Cheers guys.

My bike is always kept garaged, but about 6 weeks ago I did spray WD40 over all the switchgear - maybe that has attracted dust to stick in the switch? I'll strip it down and check it out.

I thought that maybe a wire or something is prone to coming loose, but hopefully it is more straightfoward than that!

It's probably just packed in from being 21+ years old.

It comes apart easy enough, just take it apart and see if you can fix it, if not theres loadsa early - mid 80's hondas that use the same switchgear as the NC24 so a cheap 2nd hand one shouldn't be too hard to pick up if you dont' wanna invest in a new one (if you can get one)

XBR, VF, VFR NC21, etc etc
