Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have a '93 NC29 Gullarm and it's in great condition - except 2nd gear slips. It only happens in 2nd and so I guess it's just wear & tear from my dodgy gear changes! By tightening the chain, the slipping reduces, but not completely.

Question: how easy would it be to remove and replace the gear box?

As I said, everything else about the bike is great, so am hoping to find a way to keep it going.

while your "in" that area, it may pay to replace the gear selector forks as well. they bend/wear out easy

It totally depends on your stomach for mechanicals and if you have a decent work area. It's not a small undertaking but you could do it in few days if you put your mind to it. The danger with these things is that you end up replacing a lot of worn parts as you go so it can get expensive but you do get a nice fresh motor. I'm pretty handy with the tools but generally I'll leave anything from crankshaft down to the professionals.

Thanks for the advice, Dan. I've got a good friend who is a pro with a workshop so he'll be doing the important stuff - so should be in good hands. He actually services & tunes my bike once a year before the summer :D

After he finished last summer, the motor sounded better than when I bought it back in '96 when it was almost new.

Now to get my hands on a gearbox.....

Few tips - cleanliness cleanliness cleanliness - use the correct Honda bond crankcase sealer upon re assembly - put all the various bolts into clearly marked pots - take careful note of the oil jet dowel positioning - and prior to splitting the crankcases remove the oil pump drive chain and ALL the internal crank bolts first.

I've had damaged crank cases given to me in the past as impatient mechanics have been attacking them with a hammer unaware of ALL the internal bolts.

Don't be afraid and if you get stuck feel free to call ...

Now on a sales pitch I keep all the various gaskets / crank seals / new shift forks / various gears in stock !!

Hi Graeme! Thanks for the advice. And I will definitely be calling you up for parts once I scope this out. I don't need a sales pitch from you - I bought some fairing & screen pieces from you back in 2005 - they are still really great - thanks for those

Not much this year Stimpster, maybe the 5 hr endurance and one other round. It's going to take me a while to recover from being whupped by a NC23 at the MRRDA. Instead I'm focussing the time and money restoring my Slabbie GSXR1100 which has been wallowing in the shed after a big off. I'll be back next year with a bang though (probably literally)

yes well the 23 is about to go abit harder this time round muhaha...but i think this is the last year i will race in the 400's due to this countrys lack of rules across all the states...a damn shame if you ask me!
i didnt know you had a gsxr1100 dan...i have 1 as well,the K model(first of the slingshots)..
my pride n joy thats been in storage for 3 years lol
