raises the rear ride height by about an inch-ish... all measured up and checked (see pic) and going on tomorrow. only modification needed is the bottom shock bolt needs shortening a smidge by a mil or so.

ive decided to do it to as A-the current shock is sh1te, am im not an 8stone japanese guy . but also as it is likely to offset the ride height when i drop to a 17 rear wheel..with out needing to change the dog legs etc on shock mounting.

the 'curvy' model sv650 99-late02. this one is off a low mileage 52 plate bike.
and yes the 'pointy' models sv 2003 till present are normally with an OEM white spring

Are they any good? The SV is a budget bike so I don't imagine it has top notch shocks fitted?

I agree that replacing a 18yr old tired shock with a newer one is a good call but how worth it is it oging to be in the long run? Will the damping be in the right range?

What kind of stroke to wheel travel is the SV?

CMSMJ1 wrote:Are they any good? The SV is a budget bike so I don't imagine it has top notch shocks fitted?well a test ride next weekend will hopefully confirm that

I agree that replacing a 18yr old tired shock with a newer one is a good call but how worth it is it oging to be in the long run? Will the damping be in the right range?- pass, though even a chocolate bar would be better than the original vfr rear shock (though the bike is v.low mileage?!?).. also given that thought if we were to relocate the vfr battery then we could bolt straight in a zx7r shock(got one of those lying about somewhere) or even a 04/05 zx10r shock as the top and bottom mountings are the same (give/take summit miniscule like 0.5mm) the only ddifference is the lenght..ish

What kind of stroke to wheel travel is the SV?-absolutely no idea if on honest with ya, though im sure a good 'google' would tell me :Soap:
low and behold, for me it is a temporary fix (as i have just loads of bits lying around...including almost an entire sv650...i had a rummage about found it and as it was almost identlcal and thought id 'suck it and see' though once the front end is sorted properly (ducati 996 with help from rileys kit ;) ) then ill probably get a nitron/maxton or summit.

now fitted to bike and appears fine initially, though with the extra shock height and still on an 18'' rear wheel the side stand appears to need to live in fertilizer for the next few weeks!!!!

yeh my mates have sv's and the suspension on them is seriously budget, thats why alot swap to gsxr front and rear, + usd looks good on them.

but mabe that means a gsxr rear shock could be fitted easily? whats the spring rate like as i think sv's are heavier arnt they?

Gsx-r shocks are pretty much the same fitment, they go in an nc30 pretty easily although the piggy back res will need some mods to the battery/undertray.

The weight/spring of the donor bike is irrelevant because of the nc's prolink rear. The linkages change the spring rate.
