what is the charge rate at the battery at 5000rpm?

30v output from the alternator is a little low unless maybe the check was not done @5000rpm

chap at shop didnt say what RPM it was with that reading, but its 100% better than 2V no matter what rpm it was.

they always give you back the old parts they remove......
its black in places. "crispy" was the comment from mechanic!

this morning i have to wait for daylight as they routed the choke/clutch cable wrong, they pull on the already dodgy ignition wires at the bottom of the barrel.. and every time i turn the steering left, all the electrics go off!
its going to be easier to unplug the ignition from the loom and move the wire round the cables than re-route the cables.
lol.. she says.. after fitting the HIDs.. i re-routed most the loom at the front.. i have to remove the dash just to find the ignition connector.. all this just to get to work!

Well at least you know what the problem is and where to look to fix it, that's half the battle n my books. Have to say I'm pleasantly surprised that all your valve clearances were ok, somewhat of a testimony to Honda's engineering that one. All the same, it's nice to have had them checked, at least your mind can be at ease for another 6 years!

Good luck sorting the electrics....my personal hell. Would much rather be up to my elbows in oil than faffing around with wires!
