I need to replace the carb to engine rubbers so I thought it would be good to check the carburettor balance. In the past I have checked the balance by getting the butterfly's to open at the same time with bits of wire. This time I want to use my "Carbtune" vacuum gauge. I've not used it before on the VFR because I cannot find where to fit the adaptors to the carburettors. With them off the bike it will become obvious, that and help from Bikemonkeys "V4 Carb Sync Guide"!
While thinking about the job it occurred to me that it would be worthwhile fitting permanent adapters to the carbs and leaving lengths of pipe that could be easily accessible for future maintenance. The ends of the pipes would need blanking off, obviously, and one pipe would need a tee fitting for the fuel tap.
Has anyone done this? Can anyone think of a reason why this should not be done?

I like your thinking, however it's not something that needs doing all that often.

Plus the pipes you attach will become hardened and brittle from the engine heat quite quickly unless they are thick high quality rubber.

Good point, I will use the same stuff as I used to replace the petrol tap vacuum pipe, it's some I had leftover from replacing the leak off pipes on a diesel, seems as good now as when I fitted it in 2011.

I have done this on my wife's nc29. The adaptors have been on there for 13 years with no issue. They however are NOT the carbtune versions (plastic) but I think they are brass..

Carbtune sell brass adaptors. You can get little rubber 'caps' for them which push on and seal.

That's the ones - the plastic versions are the ones that come as standard with the balancer. I'd forgotten where I'd ordered them - it was a while ago Lol. The brass ones work perfectly.

Those fittings look like the ones that came with my Carbtune. I plan to make them from stainless steel ( because I have some!). Then attach pipes that will be left in place and long enough to be easily got at next time I balance the carbs.
