I got a few questions hopefully those who have modded/fitted these shocks can help me with. I had one on my old RVF but that was already modded and have sold the bike now so cant refer back to it.

Firstly how much should be taken off the top eye of the shock? in other words how much front to back movement should there be on the swivel point?

Second question is the bottom mount, ive machined down the dog leg to a snug fit and found a shorter bolt to fix the dog leg to the bottom mount which on the RS shock is threaded one side (RVF uses a bolt straight through and nut on the other side). Problem is when i get it anywhere near tight the bottom mount clamps the dog leg solid, shouldnt this be allowed to move? Would i be better off drilling out the threaded part of the RS shock and using a nut and bolt as the RVF uses?

The bottom should be clamping the sleeve, which should be free to move on its bearing. Sounds like you have something wrong in there. Here's a fiche image from a completely different honda that should clear it up:



edit - sounds like you've misunderstood how it all works. Grind / mill a bit more off the dog leg, so the shock clamps on the bearing sleeve not on the dog leg. Check if the bearing is moving correctly.

Sorry, the top mount bit is bike-specific and I know nowt about 30's.

Thanks for that, its obvious really, ive just machined down the dog leg inc the bearing, i'll take a bit more off the dog leg leaving the bearing sticking out slightly and that should sort it.

Hello, I just corrected the same problem on my nc30- you need to press the bushing out of the dog leg, then shave the dog bone so you have at least 1mm clearence on both sides (with the the shock installed), then shave only the outer shell of the bushing so it will work as designed, the reinstall, once installed and tightened, the lower section of the shock should have at least 1mm clearence on both sides and only touching the inner sleeve of the bushing -forgot to mention, the top of the shock needs the egdes shaved and a bit off the inner sleeve.
