So how many are really left?

I was surfing the internet the other day and found this site.

https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk

It recons only 98 NC30 Model L's are left on the road (or SORN) and only 10 Model M's.

This just doesn't feel right to me. I'm sure there are plenty left sleeping the years away in sheds and similar but only 108 NC30's left roadworthy in the UK?

Surely not....

That site doesn't count grey imports - I am led to believe.

That's the bit I don't get

https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/about/

The above link suggests it shows up if its taxed or SORN (Says nothing of grey imports) or Q plates etc... just taxed or SORN which I understand all UK vehicles have to be one or the other these days.

It also says this >>No model codes exist for imported vehicles or models which have not been on general sale in the UK (or are sold in the UK under a different make or model name). In these cases the DVLA operator will either try to find the nearest, sensible, match to the name as written on the V55 form, or will record the vehicle in the ‘model missing’ box. The former is often done when keepers want something to appear on the V5 document for insurance purposes. The nearest match would usually be a shorter, more generic term for the vehicle. <<

Which I took solace from when I couldn't find my NC35...

My bikes v5 does not mention cbr400 anywhere but it does say Honda 400, so i guess thats what its down as. I guess there are a lot more of our greys due to this sort of admin problem.

Any vehicles that were off the road before SORN (1998) won't be counted. i'd have though all 30's, grey or not, would be on the list as there was an official UK model, whereas the 35 could just have ended up in the generic "400" list.

DVLA went through a huge data "cleansing" exercise about 10 years ago so many of the small volume and obsolete model details could have got lumped together.

The site is useless, and doesn't represent anything.
