Coolant expansion tank....empty

Hi,

Every year, i am doing a thorough service on my bike and every time i check my coolant expansion tank.....i always find it empty. I keep refilling to the correct level and i keep finding it empty after a year.

Can someone please shed some light here? as the color or density of the coolant is not altered. Also, when i drain the oil from the bike, it does not look as if it was mixed with coolant.

There are no leaks at all anywhere that would justify the loss....

Thanks

You have a leak somewhere check the rads and all the hoses including connections it can be difficult to locate leaks without the system being pressurised however unless theres obvious signs of a leak wetness you might find crystalisation of dried coolant which leaves a powdery residue at point of leak .
Also its worth checking both the flow and return pipes to the header tank along with the chrome pipe that sits in the v on the top crankcase under the carbs the pipe itself has been known to rot or the o rings and gaskets fail allowing to pool in the v beneath the carbs .
Your nose can also be a good detective locating coolant leaks as it leaves a distinctive sour smell .

Hi,considering you live in Greece doing a service once a year in that heat would have evaporated what's in the header tank,,..just keep any eye on it during running about....
