Coolant refill for Super Four

Post by iansoady »

I was convinced I'd already posted this.....

I'm refilling coolant on my 1993 SF. It's very slow to fill and seems to get airlocked all the time - air bubbles up through the coolant I've just put in (through the pressure cap housing, with the tank off).

Is this normal? Is there an air bleed screw somewhere I've missed? Or do I just need to be very patient?

I usually lean my 92 superfour as far to the left as possible (a friend helps) when refilling mine so as the filler cap is as high as possible makes any trapped air easier to release.
There is no bleed screw, well not on mine.

I rock mine from side to side when I do it and occasionally run the engine as it seems to shift some stuff round the system and helps to clear the air out of it.

Thanks both.

Oddly, I actually found that getting it vertical seemed to help but still slow.

It's kept the level overnight so hopefully is full now.

It would have been nice if they'd arranged it so I could get at the cap without taking the tank off.
