RVF400/NC35 Water Pump O-Ring Question

So, I had the inner o-ring start to finally leak on my RVF, so I replaced that. In the process I took the water pump apart to verify it was looking ok and to clean it hoping the seal would be ok to be re-used since my local shop said is NLA. Of course this didn't work. So, now I'm trying to see if this seal (91310-KT8-003) can be replaced with another 74.5 ID seal that's 2.5mm thick vs 2mm or if I have to get a custom seal made via McMaster.com. The other seal I was looking at was the 91301-PH8-005

You sure? O ring are you talking about the one that goes under the cover or around where it goes into the crankcase? I personally think it's your mechanical seal which I'm investigating sourcing and doing a overhaul service

In the USA, yes, I'm sure. Part number #16 in your diagram above (the outer o-ring) is NLA in USA for "normal" Honda dealers. The HRC dealer can probably get one from Japan, but I can more quickly have an o-ring custom made.

I just ordered a custom o-ring, so thanks, but I've got it covered. I was just curious as to what others in the USA have done. I can't be the only person to need this o-ring and have not be able to easily get it...

Standard circular o-rings of the correct diameter can sometimes be used in these applications (provided you can get it to stay in place whilst you're fitting the cover).

Ciao,

Ciao,
The seal it replaces is just a normal circular o-ring, so that's why I just had one ordered. It's been installed and seems to be sealing much better than the old one, which was compressed to just under 1.5mm vs the 2mm thickness they are when new.

FWIW - the NC30 water pump casing uses a shaped seal 19226-KE7-000, the NC35 uses a conventional O-ring 91310-KT8-003 to do the same job - both are still currently available from Honda UK/Europe
