"Found out battery was dry as a bone", some battery technologies are dry. An intermittent short in the lighting circuit could prove difficult to find, do you have a multimeter. One common wiring issue is pinched wires in the loom that runs to the handle bar switch. Is the problem more likely to occur when applying full lock.

I assume lights on was low beam. If you press and hold the passing switch does it cause the engine running problem. Perhaps a relay fault, if a UK model NC30, you could try swapping the high beam relay for the low beam relay. If an import, check that the correct headlight bulbs are fitted, incorrect bulbs can damage the wiring/handle bar switch and cause problems.
