Hey all

Are these identical? I have had some heavy metal in a balanced crank come loose and make a bit of a mess inside my NC30 cases. I'm pretty sure it is repairable but I have a spare set of NC35 cases on the shelf which might be an easier/cheaper route.

Even if they are different but will work - I need them to be identical in design as this is for Post-Classic racing and NC35 cases are out of period. Providing they are of identical design and material, then they can be used

Hi Luke,

Having just rebuilt and fitted an NC35 engine to my NC30, I noticed the following differences.

You will need to thread tap the upper frame mounting points both sides (upper casing)
The diameter hole for the water pump is smaller on the RVF, different pump is used
There is only one pickup mount threaded and drilled, though the castings are present

You can use VFR cams and carbs, though there are narrower inlet ports on the RVF heads

I'm not aware of any other significant differences, I really like the plain alloy finish of he RVF cases

Looks like I'm going down the route of repairing the old. Well, the engineering shop that did the balancing is... Most of the damage is cosmetic but the deformed section of the base of the liner will need re-boring.

Just as well as I can't get the main bearing shells I would need for the NC35 cases anyway!
