				Evening all,
I've not had a very good Sunday, the sun was shining and I figured I'd go for a ride. I decided to put the bike on charge while I sorted a few jobs on the morning and then go for a ride mid afternoon, after all it had been stood a few weeks. I lifted the cover off before putting the bike on charge, its a good job I did otherwise I may not of been here to type this.

After that I noticed the floor and bike cover soaked with petrol. I drained the tank and went for a closer inspection.

Looks like the previous owner decided to fill the crack/leak with some good old body filler.
I'll stick a post in the wanted section for a spare tank while I strip and brass this one up.
Hope everyone else had a better day than me.
Kind Regards
Joss

That's rubbish! Hope you manage to get it sorted.
Although I did get out yesterday a large unexpected pot hold tested the forks and my neck to their extremes!

I'm currently using paint stripper to take it back to bare metal. I'll check for any more filler and seam sealer and then brass it all up properly.
The only issue is getting a paint match on that white. Given the bike doesn't have many panels it will probably be quicker for me to respray the full lot in one go with a new white paint and then lacquer it.
I'm still on the hunt for a spare tank with a fuel sender hole. I could mount it flush in this while welding but I'd rather put the bike back on the road a.s.a.p.

Managed to strip it all back last night. Found plenty of filler.

For all of the damage it caused I was expecting more of a mess. It looks like someone just hammered a nail through it.

That's after I've cleaned it up, if you take a look at the photos below before I cleaned it you will struggle to actually see the hole.

Managed to get some time to weld it and get some stone chip on the underside. Took longer to light the torch than to weld.
Homemade fuse soaked in paraffin to test that I wasn't going to cause a bang

 .
Once that dries I can fill some dents and primer.
Homemade fuse to test for explosion

Good work so far, although I guess you feel aggrieved that you are having to do it at all. Judging by the tidiness of what you've done thus far it will turn out looking great...

Yeah I'd rather not have to do it but I was always on the look out for a tank with a fuel sender. I knew then this was an older model tank on the bike.
On with todays work:
Filler and sanding
Quick coat of primer
I was rushing with the primer and wanted to get it on thick to allow me to flat it off and show any areas still needing work. You can see where the filler has absorbed the thinners

 .
