My first bike

Hi everyone, I'm from Cape Town, South Africa. I just put a deposit down on a cb 400 super four. I'm going to be out of town and will only be able to collect it in a month! It's going to be a very long wait! So in the mean time I've just been checking out this forum. I had 10 super fours to choose from, (all japanese imports). I chose the cleanest one I could find. It's done 22000km. It does have a small scratch on the engine from being dropped but is otherwise in really great shape. It has after market rear shocks and a S.P. Tadao super combat exhaust. Does anyone know anything about this pipe? It's a full system and sounds a lot less tame than the standard pipes. I'm not sure if it's a 1994 or 1995 model. It's maroon with the raised badge on the tank (not the sticker type decal). I'll post a picture asap. Do I have to post a picture from an existing URL or can I upload it directly to this site?

Welcome to the forum, sprd!

Well done on your first bike purchase; you're gonna have loads of fun on it!
To answer a couple of your queries:

1. You can check the year of manufacture quite easily; assuming it has the original plastic side panels, there are date stamps on the insides (and on some other components too, I think there's a casting date in the wheels).

2. Register for a free Photobucket account; upload your pics there, then link them by pasting the auto-generated IMG codes (from the Photobucket site) into your post on here.

Dunno about the exhasut system, 'fraid I haven't heard of it.

Alex.

Great. Thanks for the help Alex! I've got a few pics I'll upload tonight. I did some research on the pipe, it's a jmca carbon pipe.

SP Tadoa are a well respected Jap performance parts manufacturer. Havn't seen any of their four stroke stuff but SP expansion chambers go for a fortune in Japan - even the older ones that look reallly dated. Emphasis is on performance more than looks as is the case with a lot of other manufacturers. I wouldn't be surprised if the bikes been re-jetted to suit the pipe.

My long wait is finally over! I got the bike yesterday and I've been riding as much as I can. The bike goes like a bomb and sounds awesome. I just had to put new tires on cos the old ones were cracking on the sides from age. I bought bridgestone battle axe for the front and back, anything dual compound is way too expensive here.
