I was wondering what product is best for paint stripping the panels.
I've used nitromors in the past and only ever had one reaction to abs/fiberglass.
With VFR plastics being not exactly cheap, I was wondering if you guys could recomend me something to use?

Most automotive paint shops stock the kind thatl destroy the plastics, tho the fibreglass is more resistant than the abs.. Ive sanded the upper fairings thru about 6 layers of paint which is pretty tedious but safer.. Im interested to know if theres a safe product!

Can't you just remove any decals present and sand it smooth to apply primer rather than removing all the old paint?

Most primers are designed to be applied to a specific surface, like plastic primer or fibreglass primer, putting them over paint will last for a while but eventually is gona chip

I've never had any issues spraying over sanded down paint before in 15+ years but then again as you say it depends on what your painting with.
I painted that over the previous maroon colour, paint is a rover red and was from longbridge so thats how old it is ^_^

Ah they just dnt make paint like they used to... Like the man said itl work, for maybe later than sooner, but if painting a light colour over a dark, apply a good few layers cos the shades tend to affect one another slightly, and 5 layers is always better than 2..

I used a hot air gun on my panels to remove the paint. just heat untill you see very small bubbles in the paint then pick it off with a thin scraper or knife. work a little bit at a time as it cools quickly. only a thin layer of primer was left which was easy to sand off. try it on a bit that is not seen first. worked for me. :)

Worked on the plastic panels as I did'nt have fibreglass panels on mine. just take care not to overheat them. worked well on mine with no distortion. bodywork men can even take dents out of plastic bumpers with the hot air gun without marking the paint too.
