what are the differences between the nc21 : vfr400Z and vfr400R (except the full plastics) and are there any other nc21 models?

I believe the differences between the Z and the R are purely cosmetic; the Z just has no fairing but a bellypan and twin headlights. The K model was also available (for a few years after the other two bikes in Japan) and was designed as a training school bike. I'm not too certain of the differences between it and the Z apart from the crazy 'Christmas tree' lights, crash bars, single headlight, more upright handlebars and a centre stand.

jim has covered it pretty well here.

the z is a naked bike with the twin lights and belly pan (all of this will fit on a 21 / 24 with appropriate brackets and fixings are frames are the same and been done before)

the later z models ahve carbs and jettings much more similar to the nc24 model than the earlier vfr400r nc21 models which has no velocity stacks and smaller jetting.

performance is more or less the same on all models.

the K bikes were indeed the stock training school bike, if you ever coem across one it will be white or blue (blue are the later models)

in training school trim they have werid rear lights as they flash different lights when rider at training school is using brake / clutch etc.. easily converted to road trim with lights and loom.. chances are never see an ex trainign school bike still wtih training lights on it.

nc21 and nc24 carbs.

they just have different air-design circuits to smooth power delivery and what not.

they all made the same amount of hp stock so wouldnt bother messing about with different carbs, just get what you have on your model tuned up the bes twith the aid of a dyno if you are not running well.

they still use those lights on the training school bikes just not vfrs now.

lets the instructors see what your doing on the bike so they can correct any bad things.

Are there any training bikes still specifically manufactured or do they just bolt the lights onto any bike of choice?
