Hi guys and gals, been a member on here but not posted before just been dreaming of the great bikes on here!!
I was hoping for a little help/advice, went and looked at a CB-1 last night which has been sitting the last 8 years. I think it's 89/90 machine dark blue looking tank and tail piece. All the bike seems to be there, it was running when it was parked in the shed, fork legs look okay no pitting, there's slight surface corrosion on the frame itself tho which to be made perfect would need rubbing down I think and painting. It would obviously need a full service, oils, filters, battery and new tyres as well. So I was wanting to know what you thought it was worth. Fella is looking £600 for it. It's was in an unlit shed so if I'm interested gonna go back and see it in daylight.

Does it run? Personally £600 sounds too much. Souls be a money pit. £400 tops for me

It wasn't running when I looked at it no. It was running when parked and supposed to be running good then but that's only the owners word obviously, although a few people have said he is 100%. What are one of these bikes worth in decent condition if there running?

You can pick up a really nice example for around a grand. Probably a better bet unless you really want a project?

I don't mind a bit of a project to get one going just trying to avoid paying more than it's worth I guess.

if it's non running, no tax and no ticket and looks tatty it's worth no more than £200 to be honest. the words 'money pit' used above are very apt, it will cost more to put on the road than it's worth / than buying a decent bike in the first place.

if it's been stood for some time the minimum it will need is: a pair of tyres, calipers strip, clean and rebuild with new seals and fluid, tax, mot, engine service and fresh fuel and that's easily £350.

on top of that standing won't have done any bearings any good, i would want to check and re-grease both wheel bearings, head and swing arm bearings too. same goes for fork and shock oil, they won't be new and fresh any more, the battery will have had it, need i go on.....?

I have to agree, the bike you describe is worth about £200 - £300 max but will cost you at least £500 to fix up.

I know the previous owner of this bike and it's as good as you will find. For this money, it's not worth buying a project. If I didn't already have too many bikes I would have bought it when he first sold it...
