Should I use gasket sealer on a new sump gasket?
Cheers

No.
I used to spray them with gt85 to swell the paper a little bit, but i got a tip from an old boy of using a little smear of grease on them, not enough that it should leak out when tightened up, just enough to 'wet' it. This is supposedly to ensure that it doesn't stick to the parts and the next time you remove them they should peel right off.

I have recently replaced the sump on two NC29s and wondered this myself. In the end I used the gasket glue, just a smear to hold the thing in place. Had no issues.

I use the same trick only with oil and it really does work, never had to use gasket glue as the oily film holds the gasket in place and the gaskets are easy to remove at a later date.

I just put it together without any gasket sealer in the end and tightened it all up, I won't know if it's oil tight for a few weeks.
Cheers everyone for your replies and the grease method has been stored in the old memory bank
