Hi everone,
bought my 89 nc30 last april fully runing motd bike. Done a fair bit of work like replateing nuts etc.
It sounds lovely on tick over and when reved up. Never riden it untill today as only passed my test today so as it was a nice day couldnt wait to take it out, it rides nice, smooth acceleration, quick (to me) but under load sound almost like exhaust is blowing. Iv checked, its not. Its totally standard bike includeing exhaust system.
iv been rideing a honda cbf600 on my l3ssons and it sounds very smooth on acceleration where as the nc sounds a bit rough.
Any comments welcome.
Cheers.

the chances of a 1989 bike being "totally" standard..are pretty rare IMO.
let's see some pics f the exhaust and I;d pay attention to the collars under the motor where front and rear pipes join. That rots. So if it has never been looked at, touched or fixed then my tuppence is on that blowing..
Welcome

Where're you based?
Maybe one of us could have a look-see at it for you?

Also - you say "sounds smooth on acceleration" - how does it feel?

Iv had the exhaust off while doing light restoration and those joints are all original and perfect. I dnt know what it was but took it back out today several times and it sounded absolutely fine. I think it was just me having never ridden it and been so obsessed with everything been ok. Feel a right numpty now
thanks though everone.

Excellent.
Glad you enjoy it.
I hope* that you stick with the 400 - because they are awesome bikes.
*If you are anything like me though - you won't. I was riding a YZF750 when the RVF400s came out - and I looked at an RVF and thought "Nah...too small" and got an R1 which I kept for the next 18yrs. I really wish I'd gotten an RVF from new - because it is the most fun I've ever had on a bike. Period. I've toured on it, I've thrashed it...I've commuted (OK, only once or twice) on it...I love it. But when I was first riding I was in the "bigger is better!" frame of mind.
Then again..I'm tiny (5'6") and pretty much every other bike is too big for me...so the RVF is ideal.
Enough waffling...enjoy your 400!
I'll leave this review here... :)
