Little service advice please???

Hi there

just got my VFR 400 NC30 and just after a little service advice, which plugs? which oil?

Ordered standard filters both air and oil but want to service it before I go out to far on it.
It has TYGA fairings which look awesome but what a bloody knightmare trying to work on anything, had to remove the battery and that was a pain..... God knows how im going to get to the plugs, I take it you have to remove fairings and tank to get to the plugs?

Also when I took the rear tidy off to access the battery the shock gas thing had WP on it, is this standard?

Any way will post some pics of it soon but any tips etc are greatly appreciated..

Steve

Dunno about with the tyga bodywork but yes it's a PITA to work on them.

Worth it when they're running sweetly though! :D

Plugs require seat removal, seat side panels, mid panels and lower radiator mount. It's easier if you also remove the tank and upper radiator mount (or entire radiator) but you don't need to.

Air filter requires seat removal, seat side panels (although you might be able to do it without) and tank.

Oil filter needs lower fairings removed (which need mid panels to be removed) and lower radiator lower mount undone.

The WP shock is not standard but is a bonus. :D

If you don't have the proper toolkit then you'll need to go and get a special plug spanner (IIRC 18mm deep socket works) and special pin/peg spanner for the rear hub (for adjusting the chain).

Enjoy!

Hi thanks for all the info so far.

I think its just been neglected as bodywork is mint but dirty, forks and frame are polished although corroded, brand new gp10 Dunlops, braided hoses all round, WP shock with a braided hose to the gas fing.

Because of the TYGA fairings the seat is a bloody knightmare to remove and it looks like the side panels/ tail unit is all one... Looks like might be a full plastic kit off... Dohhh..

But it does look bloody lovely in MOVISTAR colours though. So what oil? Grade etc.
What plugs?

Cheers fellas hopefully get a pic up tomorrow.

Steve

Yeah...I know you did :geek:

@ Spadey

You want some Semi synth 10w40 bike oil - buy cheaper oil and change it more often ;)

Plugs are NGK ER9EH and a tenner each or Denso Y27FER for slightly cheaper.

original honda air filter is the law...oil filter is Hiflo HF303 or Champion F301 or 306 or equivalent

get some pics up mate of your bike.

she sounds like a beaut :D .

if you can jump into a hein gerricke store and get their own brand 10/40 semi synthetic do, its some other expensive brand repackaged, and only £13 ish for 4 litres. keeps costs down

Probably to add some confusion but I use Motul 300V 15W50 4t bike oil in mine, although i'll be switching to IPONE 10W50 when I do the next change (v.soon) as its winter and colder now, or maybe even Maxum4 Ultra 5W50 if I can get hold of some cheap ^_^

Ok chaps as you can see no pics yet.... Why? well charged the battery and started it and it ran like a piece of sh*t.........When I tried revving it fully it would rev too about 3k then no further then when I let off the throttle it died.

Ok so might sound bad but I believe the petrol in it has been sat for 6 mnoths, flushed it know and when I changed the oil well it looked like water...... Glad I didnt ride it far.

SO just finished tonight changing oil + filter, all plugs, air filter, flushed out rad and replaced coolant and put new fresh gallon of fuel in her.

Fingers crossed for the morninig...

Hopefull will get some pics up tmrw.....
