descisions, descisions...

When I picked up my NC30 project there was an NC23 as part of the deal. Its another project, but I'm not quite sure what to do with it, can anyone offer any thoughts?

I carried out a full mechanical rebuild of my current NC23 last winter, its in road trim, but is occasionally gets track duty. Has the CBR600 shock mod and modified front forks, std exhaust, sintered front pads and thats about it. The bike has performed flawlessly and its great to ride. 38k km showing on the clocks, bodywork looks decent from a distance, but is a little tatty. The indicators, mirrors and plate are still off from my last TD in Sept (that was the last time I rode a bike and will be until April at the earliest).

My NC30 will get some track time next year most probably and maybe an occasional road ride (I hardly ride on the road now, maybe a little Sunday run out)

The 'new' bike has a previously polished frame and swingarm, only 24k showing on the clocks, came with a motad? stainless exhaust, braided lines front and rear, gold CDI etc. The brake pistons all look a bit rusted, tank is surface rusted internally and has a little pinhole and there are no plastics.
When I got the bike home I fitted the carbs and got it running with no problem - it sounded good.
I think at some point in its life it was really well looked after, but has fell on hard times in recent years.
Interestingly the side covers are different to my current bike and the front of the engine case / sump are finned on this one, whereas its smooth on my other

So, my thoughts are:
Break it, never broke a bike before, but I could use the money to put towards a different project
Try and sell it as is
Build it as a road bike and convert my other as a track only bike (or vice versa)
keep it as a spares bike - but its taking up space
take the best bits of both bikes (engine, frame and exhaust from the new one, suspension, brakes and carbs from the other) and build one bike + sell the leftovers
Part of me wants to save it (don't think it would cost much except the plastics and painting the tank), part thinks I've already got one, why have another (it won't be worth much when its done) and I'd be more interested in putting my time and money into something different (stroker!)

Anyone got any pearls of wisdom please??? every time I make my mind up, the next day I change it!

Is it a j or k. The oil filter looks like there is a addition. Didn't the do a performance part that fitted between the engine and the filter.

Thats a good point, just assumed it was a j because of the cdi, now i've checked its a k engine number.
Curiously the engine number on the V5 for my original bike is shown as 'not known' i'll check the cases tomorrow.
Think its just the normal oil cooler on the filter, though i could be mistaken.

I think it looks to good to break and would make a good little project for someone.
Build a track bike, you know it makes sense.....

My 2 pence.
Don't break it, some bits will sell very fast and some bits won't so you just end up with lots of bits around the garage in the way and taking up more space that they did when they where all bolted together.
Either build it as a bike, road or track whatever funds allow and sell it then.
Or
Keep it, I believe one day the small cc bike will be popular again and people will want our old bikes because they are so well made and companies don't spend the same money on small cc bikes they once did, maybe not as popular as 250s but popular enough they will be worth more than they are now

Track it.....
WHats it going to cost???? Couple of hundred for a set of panels and 150ish for a set of 090s ????

Try buying a track bike for less than £500

Oh and don't worry about there being no engine number too much on the v5....

There is no legal requirement for the engine number

Still changing my mind on a daily basis!
A track bike will basically end up the same as my other nc, just with different fairings. I don't really want to put another GF rear linkage on, nor spend £400 on a nitron shock, so I think I'm done with that idea.
I Think Roysters idea of keeping it in the corner is the current favorite. Maybe keep my eyes peeled for the right parts and look to build it in the future.
