Hi, I've just done the fork seals on my nc24, and noticed that there is no spacers in the forks at the moment. Free length of the springs is 535mm. Anyone know if this is the normal spring length?

Just trying to work out if these are aftermarket springs or originals missing spacers...

Haynes NC30 manual has NC21/24 specs claiming NC24 as VFR400RH/RJ with spring length 396.8mm.

Thanks, I'm assuming they are non-standard ones then, as I think there should be about a 130mm spacer in there which wouldn't fit with those springs...

I won't bother getting any new ones then.

Cheers

have you tried these springs?

they might just be a bodge to compensate for old tired springs.

not sure how well they would perform

Yeah, the front feels OK, I'd read that these bikes had soft front fork springs originally, so was thinking about replacing the springs whilst I had the forks apart (leaky seal). But I guess the reason it feels ok is that someone has already done that at some point...

Its all back together now, & new fork oil has made an improvement, so just going to leave it for now.

Cheers

Will am having to replace the seals on my NC24. Wondered if you had to use any special tools to do this. The NC30 forks look like a doddle, but browsing forums the NC24 may require a special 24mm hex bit??? but I can't get confirmation on this.

Also, do you have a chronological order for stripping each leg down, any tips???

they are just normal forks.. one side has the anti-dive.. they come apart just like any other honda forks of that era and go back toghether the same.

losen top cap a slight amount, remove fork from bike

drain oil from drain bolt

undo bottom bolt, take off cap, remove dust seal and circlip, pul forks apart, replace parts / clean inside and rebuild
